STEM skills Skills Upload Jr Challenge
The Skills Upload Jr Challenge is an international competition that aims to promote
digital inclusion and help middle school students improve their digital skills. This
project, started by the Vodafone Foundation, takes place at the same time in 9
European countries, including Romania. The main goal of the competition is to
encourage students to create innovative tech solutions for real problems in their
communities, connected to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The European Skills Upload Jr Challenge event took place in Bucharest in March
2025, bringing together the winning teams from the national finals held in the other
countries. Romania was represented by the Eco Queens team from Alexandru Davi-
la Secondary School in Pitesti. Their project uses artificial intelligence (AI) to identify
different types of waste and automatically open the correct container for each type.
